Build an insurance policy from a provider with pedigree

Working with animals isn't always a walk in the park – it has its own set of challenges. Not only are you responsible for keeping your furry friends safe when they're in your care, you're also responsible for any harm or damage they might cause. That's why it's important to have the right dog groomers' insurance in place.

We let you tailor your policy to suit the unique needs of your business. So, whether you're washing a client's dog at your grooming studio or pampering a pooch at your client's house, you're covered if something goes wrong.

Your cover options

Add any of the following cover options to your dog groomers' Insurance to create a policy that suits your business. These covers are subject to policy conditions and limits.

It doesn't matter how many different types of cover you include in your policy – you'll only pay one premium, with one renewal date. You just choose whether to pay it monthly or annually. It couldn't be simpler.

  • Public liability

Including public liability cover in your dog grooming insurance policy means you're covered if the animal in your care is injured, causes injury to someone else or damages someone's property.

It also covers you if a client is injured at your premises. For example, if they slip on a wet floor at your dog grooming parlour and sprain their ankle.

If someone pursued a claim against you, public liability would cover your legal and compensation costs. We can offer cover from £1 million to £10 million.

  • Product liability

Product liability covers you if someone becomes ill or is injured as a result of the products you supply. For example, if a dog toy or grooming product you sell injures a client or their pet.

  • Employers' liability

This covers the costs you have to pay if an employee gets injured or becomes ill while they're working for you. For example, if a dog bites and injures your employee and the employee pursues legal action against you. This cover would pay your court fees and any compensation.

In most cases, employers' liability insurance is a legal requirement if you have employees. Read more about employers' liability insurance to learn about the exemptions to this rule.

  • Theft of takings

Your dog grooming business may deal in cash and cheque payments. This policy will cover you in case of theft. This includes business takings stolen from you or anyone working for you.

  • Buildings cover

If you experience a flood or fire that damages your parlour or home, buildings insurance will cover the cost of the repairs or reinstatement.

We include equipment breakdown cover for items forming part of the building as standard. This includes cover for broken boilers and fire/burglar alarms, as long as the breakdown isn't caused by wear and tear.

  • Contents and stock

You can cover all the specialist equipment you need to run your business, like shampoos, doggy clippers, cages and toys, with our contents and stock insurance.

If you run the administrative side of your business from your home or an office, you can also cover all your electrical items, furniture and important documents.

This insurance covers damage caused by an insured event, such as fire, theft or water damage due to a broken pipe; it does not cover damage caused by a pet.

  • Business interruption

If your parlour is damaged by a fire and you can't trade, business interruption would cover your loss of turnover while repairs are made.

Our cover can also insure you if you, or one of your key employees, becomes seriously disabled and is unable to carry on working. We'll cover the incurred costs of replacing them while they're off, up to £25,000.

  • Legal expenses

Dealing with problematic dogs?

It’s always good practice to ask your clients whether their dog has any behavioural issues before you treat them. For example, if you know a dog is likely to bite you or an employee whilst being groomed, muzzling the dog beforehand can help prevent unnecessary injury.
