Making a payment? Here’s what you need to know

  • If circumstances change with you or your business

We have relied upon the information that you provided to calculate a premium and apply terms and conditions upon which insurance cover is offered. If your circumstances change between the date you purchase the policy and the policy start date, please call us. If you don't, it may mean your policy isn't valid or it could result in all or part of claims not being paid.

  • If you need to amend your policy

We don't charge admin fees for mid-term changes to your policy.

  • If you cancel your policy

If you have a Van Insurance policy with us, find out more about cancelling in the ’If you cancel your Van Insurance policy’ section.

    Before 14 days

If you cancel within 14 days of receiving your policy documents or the start date of the policy (whichever is later), you will get a full refund as long as you haven’t made any claims.

    After 14 days

If you cancel after 14 days, as long as you've not made any claims you will receive a pro-rata refund, minus an admin fee of one month's premium (up to a maximum of £50 + Insurance Premium Tax).

  • Automatic renewal

Automatic renewal means that we'll renew your policy without you having to do anything, saving you time, and making sure you're always covered. You can ask us to change this at any time.

Your payment details are safe with us

We'll securely store your payment details so that we can automatically renew your policy next year. This only applies to payments by Direct Debit, American Express, Visa, Visa Delta and MasterCard.

We’ll give you plenty of notice beforehand

We'll send you a renewal invitation in good time before we take any payment. Please contact us if your circumstances have changed, or if you don't want us to automatically renew your policy.

  • Paying by Direct Debit

By paying monthly, you’re entering into a credit agreement with us. You need to be sure you can afford it as if you don’t pay every month, we may cancel your insurance policy and you may still owe us money. We will send you more information - let us know if you have any questions.

    Confirmation and further details

You will also be sent confirmation of the Direct Debit instruction no later than 10 working days before the first collection date. The company name that will appear on your statement will be Direct Line. Direct Debits are protected by a guarantee, which you can view in the ‘Direct Debit Guarantee’ section.

We will also provide you with an adequate explanations document, giving you further information about Direct Debits. You will receive this with your documents but you can also view this here.

  • Direct Debit Guarantee

This Guarantee is offered by all banks and building societies that accept instructions to pay Direct Debits.

    What your rights are

If there are any changes to the amount, date or frequency of your payments, Direct Line for Business will notify you 10 working days in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed. If you request Direct Line for Business to collect a payment, confirmation of the amount and date will be given to you at the time of the request.

If an error is made in the payment of your Direct Debit, by Direct Line for Business or your bank or building society you’re entitled to a full and immediate refund of the amount paid from your bank or building society.

If you receive money you’re not owed

If you receive a refund you’re not entitled to, you must pay it back when Direct Line for Business asks you to.

How to cancel a Direct Debit

You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by simply contacting your bank or building society. Written confirmation may be required. Please also notify us.
